HCC East Palo Alto

HCC East Palo Alto is a partnership between the Stanford School of Medicine and East Palo Alto Academy high school. The program was initiated in the 2018-19 academic year by Stanford medical students Carlie Arbaugh and Joshua Taylor who were recipients of the Health Career Collaborative Program Initiation Grant. The HCC faculty sponsors at Stanford School of Medicine are Dr. Sherry Wren, Vice Chair for Professional Development and Diversity; Professor of Surgery; Director of Global Surgery, Center for Global Health and Innovation; and Dr. James Korndorffer, Vice Chair of Education, Department of Surgery.

East Palo Alto high school students demonstrate the physical exam to assess a potential ACL injury. The demonstration accompanied their academic presentation on the topic.
The finale presentations are followed with a lunch where medical student mentors can socialize with their high school student mentees and answer questions about career paths and medical careers.
